Right now I'm taking part in the Plant Encyclopedia beta and learning about MediaWiki and Wikipedia and turning that all into a generally nerdy video blog. I hate the word vlog, even though it looks neat.
Beta testing is fun. See?
This is also going to be my nerd dumping ground. It's recycling day.
I’m still learning how to be a photo-hound. I spent the entire day at comic con with iPhone in hand and failed to snap a single pic. And the ones taken by others of me look ridiculous - too excited so I look drunk/insane.
Highlights:
Nicholas Brendon: !!!!! Squee!!! I geeked out and fangirled then ran away after getting my signature. Literally “I have to hide now” was my parting shot. C to the lass-y.
Aaron Douglas: Further squee-age! “Derby loves you!” and it does!
Cheeseburger Brown: so happy to see him here! Grabbed a book and tossed another derby girl at him for sale #2. I am the sci-fi pimp. His wife is also super hot/awesome and is a derby girl in training.
I was there with ToRD to promote the league, but am still not allowed on my skates, so I couldn’t bomb around with the rest of the women from my league. It was great to see other nerdy derby girls out from elsewhere.
I’ve backed my first project! I feel all beneficent… and then I remember I get a copy of the book. Okay, so I technically bought a book, maybe. So if other people back this project, then I get my book. Back it!!
The mantra is suspension of disbelief. This type of movie breaks every rule of reason. Helicopters fly upside down. Airbags nailgunned to the side of a shipping container. Grappling gun facilitated escapes out the back of prison buses.
But the main characters are so lovable. Actors who turn the writing into something much better than it is on paper. The cliches and over-worked jokes just keep on working for whatever reason of movie magic and I don’t hate the lack of anything remotely acceptable about the ridiculous and formulaic plot and action.
Stranger Than Fiction is probably the most charmingly nerdy movie I’ve ever seen. I love the sweetness, the writing, and Will Ferrell’s delivery of the writing.
I had to track down this clip before I lost the memory of the moment. I’ve been fighting with stats homework with Stranger Than Fiction on in the background and turned around just in time to watch this.
While I’d need to see a lot more documentation before I’d get behind this project, and they damn well better include Joss Whedon at some point, I think it’s a fabulous idea!
